Advocacy in Action

The Multicultural Business Coalition advocates for policies and actions that protect and strengthen multicultural, minority-owned, immigrant-owned, and small businesses. When proposed government initiatives may significantly affect the businesses and communities our members represent, MBC works to ensure their economic interests and concerns are heard. In August 2026, MBC filed a petition in New York State Supreme Court challenging New York City’s proposed municipal grocery-store program and seeking further study and analysis of its potential impact on existing small grocers, bodegas, and supermarkets. The petition raises particular concerns about businesses owned by minority and immigrant entrepreneurs operating in communities where proposed municipal stores may compete directly with existing businesses. The action reflects MBC’s broader commitment to advocating for economic opportunity, fair competition, thoughtful public policy, and the long-term sustainability of the businesses that help anchor communities.
